Current Policy

What to do at Oxford

  • Plan ahead. Include publishing costs in your grant application under the dissemination budget. See EC Open Access FAQ how to prepare for the open access requirement in the proposal submission stage. Be realistic. Don’t underestimate the number of articles or costs.
  • APCs and other publication costs should be paid from your grant. The University does not have an ERC block grant so we cannot pay them for you.
  • Acknowledge your funder in your submission
  • Make sure your article can be made openly available through a repository, either through the ‘green’ (self-archiving) or ‘gold’ (immediate OA) route.
  • Check if your proposed journal meets this requirement by viewing its open access options on SHERPA/RoMEO.
  • Where your chosen publisher will not allow you to self-archive within the embargo allowed by EC, you will have to comply via the Gold route.
  • OA costs are only eligible for the duration of the project.
  • Please also Act on Acceptance and deposit a copy of your accepted manuscript in ORA at the time of article acceptance.
  • COVID-19 additions for H2020
    • deposit all research publications relevant to COVID-19 into ORA with a CC BY licence by the date of publication at the latest
      • include information on any tools and instruments needed to re-use, reproduce or validate the conclusion/s of the publication  Eg. software, workflows, models or materials
    • make all research findings available via a preprint server (or ORA) prior to peer review
      • include statements on availability of underlying data.
