It has been announced that the Charity Open Access Fund will end on 30 September 2020, at the close of the current block grant year. For the past six years it has operated on the basis of all partners sharing a common open access policy, but this will no longer be the case from January 2021 when Wellcome implements its Plan S-aligned OA policy.
The six medical research charities which make up COAF are Blood Cancer UK (formerly Bloodwise), British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Parkinson’s UK, Versus Arthritis, and Wellcome.
All partners are committed to open access and will continue to fund open access costs for the researchers they support. Further details of each charity’s intended mechanisms (some yet to be finalised) can be found in this table on the COAF webpage.
Until then, COAF-funded Oxford University researchers should continue with the current OA policy and procedure for our COAF block grant. Please contact our OA Enquiry team with any questions: email@example.com.
