The Wellcome Trust’s open access policy brings in new requirements for publishers next month. From 1 April 2017, Wellcome funding cannot be used to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs) for papers submitted to non-compliant publishers.

Wellcome have published the list of 58 publishers who have committed to providing the required services, including OUP, PLOS, Royal Society, Springer Nature (inc. BioMed Central, Nature Research, Palgrave Macmillan and Springer) and Wiley.

Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) members Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation and Parkinson’s UK will also apply the same requirements for outcomes of research they have funded.

Details will be available through Sherpa FACT, which grantholders should use before submission of article to check compliance of journal with funder policy.

You can contact your Subject Librarian for help or email our Open Access Team on openaccess@bodleian.ox.ac.uk.
